What is visa to Brazil?
Is, an administrative act under the authority of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs which results in a consular authorization registered in the passport of foreigners and which allows them to enter and remain in Brazil, when immigration law requirements are met.
Temporary Visa to Brazil
Is the authorization, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through Brazilian consulates abroad, issued to foreigners who wish to travel to Brazil with the following purposes:
I - cultural trip or study mission;
II - business trip;
III - as an artist or sportsman/sportswoman
IV - as a student
V - as a scientist, professor, technician or professional of other area, under contract or in the service of the Brazilian Government;
VI - as a news correspondent for a newspaper, magazine, radio, television or foreign news agency;
VII - as a religious minister, a member of a sacred institution and/or congregation or of a religious order.

What is permanent Visa to Brazil?
Permanent Visa to Brazil is the authorization issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil to the foreigner who wishes to settle down in Brazil. In the cases of high level scientists or specialists, investor (juridical person) or administrator, chief exective officer, of a Brazilian company, the concession of this type of visa also requires a Work Permit issued by the Ministry of Labor.
This director's type of permanent visa allows the foreigner to be a Chief Executive, General Manager of a company in Brazil with the foreign investments of at least 50 000 US$ (in this case some limitations apply), or US$200 000 (no limitations apply). Please note, that a simple work permit do not give the right to occupy the executive position at the Brazilian company.
The foreigner - an executive or Director of a company, which has a business in Brazil, may apply for a permanent visa, as long as he/she complies with the relevant legislation, which requires investment of foreign capital in or transfer of technology to Brazil.
The granting of this type of work permit is subject to the submission of the personal documents of the applicant accompanied by the companie's documents.
This type of visa cannot be obtained directly in the consulate of Brazil. Only after an administrative proceeding is made and approved before the competent immigration authorities in Brasilia, the visa can be get in the consulate abroad. This visa cannot be obtained within the Brazil.
The familiy of applicant also get the same type of visa without the necessity of investing.

Other possibility to get a permanent visa is a visa of indivudual investor. A foreigner, who wants to to be a permanent resident in Brazil may be granted a permanent visa if he/she invest more than 150 000 Brazilian reals. This investment must be made of the own resources which must enter to the Brazilian company from abroad. The company can be a new one, or the old one.
Application for this type of visa only can be made only in Brazil, following the complicating administrative procedures within the Brazilian ministries.
